Group Team Building Activities

Go Beyond being Just a Functional Group - Become a Great Team

Group Team Building Activities is for any group of individuals who want to go beyond being just a functional group, like a committee, a department, a council or task force to becoming an effective and great team.

A group does not just become a team without some work. It must learn to work together, and this takes careful planning and coaching.

A great team always has four essential characteristics:

  1. Its members are accountable together for their achievements and failures, and their impact on the organization as a team.
  2. Its members understand that working together leads to more effective problem solving and decision making than working alone.
  3. Its members share a compelling reason for working together and they are committed to a common vision.
  4. Its members recognize and respect one another's experience, ability, and skills.

Many groups who have a task to accomplish like to call themselves a team, but in reality they're not. This is evident when:

  • Conflict is avoided and frustrations and complaints are shared outside of the "team" meeting, between groups of "team" members.
  • Roles are unclear – so the same work is done two and even three times, or falls through the cracks and doesn't get done at all.
  • There's an absence of trust because unhealthy competition and territorialism is present. The team misses opportunities because the members are unable to work together and put the success of the team before personal ambition.
  • The team struggles with different priorities. The pressures of having to constantly put out fires in their organization often drive members to focus outside the team.

These are just a few of the warning signs that tell you a group that wants to become a team, is in need of specialized coaching and training. We offer team leaders and members a wide range of tools, exercises and activities to help a group of individuals, working together to become a great team.
